
The Big Burnley Walk is Back – New Start Location and New Routes!
Discover the hidden gems of our borough’s stunning networks of footpaths and walking routes. With exciting new routes to explore, it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of Burnley’s #OutdoorTown.
And the best part? It’s completely FREE to take part!
Starting and finishing at Offshoots Community Garden, Towneley Park Burnley, there will be the option of 3 routes.
1. Short Stroll – A family friendly route (3-4 miles). Route will be led by a walk leader and provided closer to the event date.
2. Medium Meander (8 miles). Route can be found here.
3. THE Big Burnley Walk (13.5 miles) Route can be found here.
Maps with brief written instructions will be provided on the day. The routes are self guided, so reasonable navigation skills will be needed. There will be a tail walker for each route to ensure no-one is left behind.

- No age restrictions. A reminder that children under the age of 16 must be supervised throughout.

Open from 8:30am/Registration from 8.50am
- 9.30am – Long Route “Big Burnley Walk” departs.
- 9.45am – Medium Meander departs.
- 10.15am – Short Stroll departs.
As this is an outdoor event, participants should be dressed appropriately for the weather and wearing suitable footwear. It is recommended that you check the weather on the day of the event and bring spare warm clothing, waterproofs, sun cream etc.
Although this is a self guided route, all participants will need to register and the event team will be waiting to check all particpants back in at the end of their walk. We ask all participants to contact the event team if they do not plan on returning to to the start/finish location. More details on how to do this will be provided in pre event comms and on the day.
Cancellation
The event will only be cancelled if there is a severe weather warning in place or flooding to the route. The decision for cancelling will be made for 8am on the day of the event and you will be notified via email if this is the case.
If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please cancel your booking and/or let the event organisers know prior to the event start. This will make the check in and registration process on the day much easier.
