The Burnley Business Improvement District (BID) is calling on the people of the town to shop local and support local businesses as Christmas approaches.

That’s the message from Burnley BID Project Manager Andrew Dean who has urged people to buy from shops, retailers and organisations in the town centre to support the high street and keep money in the local economy.

It comes as many businesses in Burnley turn to online sales and alternative ways of getting products to customers, such as click and collect and home deliveries, in the face of Coronavirus restrictions.

Andrew said: “There has never been a more important and necessary time for the people of the town to support the local businesses here in Burnley and give them much-needed custom.

Relying on Festive Sales

“Businesses have already had a very difficult year, and with Christmas being one of the busiest trading periods, many are relying on festive sales to help give their bottom line a boost so they can look ahead to 2021 with positivity.

“What’s more, the businesses here in the town have been so valuable to the local community over the past few months and have been a crucial lifeline for so many. It would be a real shame if they weren’t supported at a time when they need help most.”

Andrew’s sentiments have been echoed by Burnley BID Chairman Laurence O’Connor who has outlined the benefits of shopping local, especially where buying Christmas presents is concerned.

Find Something Unique and Meaningful

“When you shop local you’re dealing with people who are really passionate about the products they sell and from my experience they always go out of their way to help people find something unique and meaningful,” said Laurence.

“Obviously shopping is a little different at the moment but many of our shops and stores in Burnley have their own websites and of course you can always pick up the phone to discuss requirements.

“Items like gift vouchers, hampers and sets are going to be really popular this year, so even if you don’t feel like visiting the high street please just get in touch with our businesses online and they will do all they can to help you.”

To assist BID members with reaching more customers, Burnley BID has created a Facebook group which brings together offers, updates and deals from businesses all in one place to make it easier for customers to shop local.

There are numerous posts daily, with Christmas gift ideas and products now coming in thick and fast.

The group can be joined here.
