Walking is a great way to keep fit and explore the wonderful scenery that is on your doorstep.
And here in Burnley there’s lots of beauty just waiting to be discovered from the town centre.
That’s why we’ve created a list of 6 walking route suggestions for you to enjoy in Burnley. Please keep reading to see where they are and to also download the detailed routes.
The Burnley Way
With different sections to explore, the 40 mile Burnley Way takes in some amazing landscapes and environments. Routes are broken up into six separate parts so you can do as much or as little of the trail as you like.
With waterways, woodlands, fields, parks and industrial heritage all featuring, The Burnley Way is well worth trying.
Wayside Arts Trail
With two routes for different abilities, the Wayside Arts Trail offers great walking and begins by Towneley Hall. The longer route is just under 8 miles, while the shorter version is a much more manageable 3 miles.

Singing Ringing Tree
This walk from Lancashire Life takes in the famous Singing Ringing Tree and starts from Towneley Park.
It features some fantastic scenery and countryside and affords some lovely views. It is 8 miles though so make sure you are well prepared with the correct equipment and supplies.
Gawthorpe Circular
This 4 mile circular walk can be found in Padiham and features the historic Gawthorpe Hall.
There are lots of interesting features on this walk and beautiful scenery aplenty. There are a couple of hill climbs, however it shouldn’t be too challenging. View the full route with detailed directions.
Burnley’s Parks
If you want to stay close to the town centre or just fancy a short stroll then why not wander around some of Burnley’s parks?
All offer well-marked routes with some beautifully-landscaped gardens and provide calming environments in which to enjoy nature. They’re also ideal for a lunchtime stroll or a quick loop after work to get those steps in. Head to the Burnley Council website for more details.
Burnley Trail – Leeds & Liverpool Canal
This 5-6km trail along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is perfect for families. It’s also great for anyone who simply wants a pleasant walk next to this historic waterway.
It comprises 10 stop points too which are each marked with a QR code. You can scan the code to find out interesting facts about the canal’s history and wildlife.
