Elliott Flanagan presents a multimedia installation which draws from ideas and motifs from the town and its communities.

Since last year, he has been working in Burnley, returning as an artist for his first exhibition in his hometown. During this time, he has made new work responding to his memories of the place he knew and the town as he sees it today.

Co-created with a local women’s group from West End Community Centre, the work results from workshops where together they shared their stories and connections to the town. During their meetings, everyone brought in personal objects which they would include in a shrine of their life to help people understand them and where they come from.

This exhibition is that shrine, a contemporary Burnley archive that includes a collection of these items, while reflections from the group are represented across Elliott’s new work which incorporates sound, his writing, drawing and curated photographs from Burnley Civic Trust Image Collection.
