Carmina Burana
The 100 voices of Burnley’s acclaimed community choir return to the Mechanics to perform one of the most spectacular and well-known choral pieces ever written – Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, performed with top international soloists and full orchestra.
This exciting work – covering themes of fortune’s volatility, the joy of spring, and the pleasures of drinking and lust, is most famous for its powerful opening and closing movement, which has featured in many films, tv series and adverts.
The evening also includes the local premier of John Rutter’s joyous Magnificat – vibrant, energetic and heavily influenced by “latin” dance rhythms.
Accompanied by East Lancs Sinfonia.
Conducted by Nigel Wilkinson.
