SUMMARY:Community Collaboration Day
DESCRIPTION:The event\, which takes place on Wednesday 18 February from 11a
m\, brings together local groups\, volunteers and organisations who have b
een working quietly behind the scenes to make improvements across the neig
hbourhood. Organisers hope the day will give people the chance to get invo
lved\, meet others and see what’s happening in their area. \n\nOne of t
he projects running on the day will see Calico’s Going Green Team planti
ng new trees along Rossendale Road\, supported by Burnley Council. The pla
nting\, which will start at 10:00\, is part of ongoing efforts to improve
local green spaces and create natural barriers in places where customers h
ave reported nuisance from bikes and quads. Anyone who wants to help out i
s welcome to join in\n\nLife Church will also be leading a community litte
r pick\, but with a twist: a treasure-hunt-style route aimed at getting ch
ildren and young people involved. Volunteers say they hope it will be a fu
n way to tidy up the streets while encouraging families to take part.\n\n\
nA team from Incredible Edible will be at the event too\, sharing early pl
ans for a new community garden. They’ll be speaking to customers about
what the space could look like\, gathering ideas\, and encouraging people
to get involved once work begins.\n\nCreative activities will run through
out the day as well\, with help to build your own birds box\, and a craft
group helping attendees make artwork and seed bombs to brighten up the are
 a. Organisers say they want people to feel that the improvements belong to
everyone\, not just the groups leading them.\n\nThe Community Grocery and
other local partners will also be there to meet customers and share infor
mation about the support and opportunities available locally.\n\nSpeaking
ahead of the event\, Calico Homes Customer Engagement Officer Emmy Dickins
on said: “I think it’s a good response to some of the environmental is
sues that have been raised about the South West Burnley area.\n\n“We wan
t to show that there’s a lot of civic pride here. We can make the area b
etter by putting roots in our gardens and in our own spaces.\n\n“It’s
a bit like a summer fair but in February. There’ll be plenty of fun\, an
d we want to encourage all families to come along.”\n\nThe event is open
to anyone living locally\, whether they want to roll up their sleeves or
just come along and see what’s happening\, and refreshments will be avai
 lable on the day.\n\n
